Jürgen Preiss is a Master of Landscape Planning and Design from the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences. From 1997 to 2007, he served as a project manager at the landscape planning office Kirchner in Vienna. From 2007 to 2024, he worked as the Deputy Head at the City of Vienna – Environmental Protection MA 22 – section Spatial Development, leading the Team for City Climatology. 

His main responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies to mitigate urban heat islands, facilitating funding programs for greening buildings, disseminating information on city climatology, green facades, and green roofs, participating in the Standardization Committee to develop directives for outdoor vertical greening and roof greening, and collaborating with external partners on research projects related to urban climate and green infrastructure topics.
