Nuno Brandão Costa
Nuno Brandão Costa (Porto, 1970) graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) in 1994, where he earned his doctorate in 2013 and has been teaching since 1999. He was an assistant to Professor Domingos Tavares, Professor Bernardo Ferrão, and Professor Pedro Ramalho, currently holding the position of associate professor co-regent with Professor João Pedro Serôdio, teaching Project 4, a course he has been involved with since 2001. He coordinated and taught in the Advanced Studies Course in Architecture Project (EAPA 2014/2015) at FAUP under the guidance of architect Eduardo Souto de Moura.

He is also the coordinator, along with Professor José Miguel Rodrigues, of the Theory and Practices of Project option in the PhD program at FAUP, leading the respective 2E seminar and conducting research at CEAU FAUP in the T2P group.
Between 1992 and 1993, he completed an internship with Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland. From 1993 to 1997, he collaborated with José Fernando Gonçalves & Paulo Providência in Porto. In 1998, he began his architectural practice following the first prize in the public competition for the project of the Library of the Faculty of Humanities of the New University of Lisbon.
His work spans a considerable diversity of scales and programs, including the construction of the Campanhã Intermodal Terminal (TIC) and the rehabilitation and expansion of the São João de Deus Social Neighborhood, both in Porto.
Nuno Brandão Costa’s projects have been exhibited at major international architecture events, including the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2004 and 2021; the São Paulo Architecture Biennale in 2005; and exhibitions in New York, Tokyo, Milan, Chicago, and other prestigious venues.
He has received several awards and nominations, such as the Mies Van der Rohe Award in 2008, 2021, and 2023; the Swiss Architectural Award in 2012; and was a finalist for the FAD Prize in 2017, among others.
Nuno Brandão Costa is a respected lecturer and has been invited to speak at seminars and architecture faculties across various countries, including Germany, Argentina, Italy, Mexico, and Switzerland, among others.
